Purrfect Pals benefit concert, 4.24.2014

Last night I had the privilege of playing with my recently formed jazz group, Z Trio, at a benefit concert for a wonderful local organization, a cat shelter named Purrfect Pals. They’re a fantastic group of people; the kitties they’re rescuing are just heartbreaking and adorable, and Purrfect Pals is really worth supporting. Here’s their website:

And here’s a playlist of some of our music from the event:

David Shere, guitar
Greg Domingo, bass
Charles McNary, percussion

If you’re looking for a good jazz guitar trio to complete your event, Z Trio would love to play for you! You can contact me at zylaxis@hotmail.com if you’re interested.

Cheers as always,

Dave

Faculty concert post-ramble

Aside

Thanks to everyone who came out to the concert this past Saturday!

In the “aimless ramblings” category: I’ve been watching reruns of the “Larry Sanders” show for the past week and a half in my spare time (mostly during dinner), and man. They don’t write good TV like that anymore. Come to think of it, I don’t recall anything quite like it before, either. Garry Shandling is a visionary. The only show that even comes close is “Newsradio,” which was great fun in it’s own right.

I have weird taste in television and movies. There was a very short-lived show about a year ago called “The Cape” that was simply *amazing,* and it got canned due to poor ratings. Man was I bummed. And when I was a kid there was this film called “Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension” that was supposed to be the first of a whole series, but it crashed and burned at the box office. “BB” remains my all-time favorite film to this day; it has quite the little cult following, including infamous indie director Kevin Smith.

…OK, enough nostalgia for now. Stay tuned for more instructional videos! I have three more in the bag that I will post as soon as I’ve had a chance to tab them out.

Audio from the concert is available on my website- link here: http://www.zylaxis.com/mp3files/DavidMShere-MCNW_concert_3-9-2013.zip

I’ll have video from the concert as well, as soon as I’ve had a chance to edit it. Cheers!

Welcome to my blog!

I plan to use this page as a repository for a sort of running commentary about music. Specifically, I need a place to publish my endless guitar explorations, so this page will be a forum for my YouTube videos and links to tablature of original lesson content as I develop it.

Currently I have more than 24 journals (over 1500 pages!) of personal guitar studies spanning more than 20 years, some of which I have self-published in the form of three PDF books (all available for free download on my website), and all of which I have used with my students in private lessons at one time or another. I’m hoping that this blog will allow me to make smaller tutorials available on a more regular basis as I work on my next book or two.

As part of my teaching credentials, I am currently in the process of pursuing my Suzuki Association certification. I recently passed my audition; you can view the video here:

Thanks for your interest, and stay tuned!
